On-device by default: Apple Intelligence
Out of the box, Plouse can lean on Apple Intelligence, running fully on your Mac. Your summaries and suggestions are generated locally, so nothing about your activity ever leaves the machine. If your Mac supports Apple Intelligence, it’s the zero-setup, maximum-privacy option, no account, no API key, no cloud.
Or bring your own model
Prefer a particular model? Point Plouse at the AI of your choice, Claude, GPT or Gemini, with your own API key, or a local model you already run yourself. The insights surface the same way; you’re just picking the brain behind them. Want the deepest write-ups? Reach for a frontier cloud model. Want everything to stay offline? Keep it local. Your choice, your data.
What the AI actually sees
Privacy doesn’t stop at the model boundary. Before Plouse ever asks a cloud AI for help, it genericises the sensitive parts, labels and email domains pulled from window titles are stripped back, so the model reasons about the shape of your week rather than the private details. Anything you’ve blocked never makes it in at all. And with Apple Intelligence or a local model, even that genericised version stays on your Mac.
It remembers, whichever AI you use
Everything you teach Plouse, your projects, the way you like your time sorted, the people you meet with, lives in a private, on-device Work Memory that is model-agnostic. Switch from Apple Intelligence to Claude next month and you lose nothing: the new model picks up exactly what the old one learned, because your memory is a plain file that belongs to you, not to any one provider.
Setting it up
Open Plouse’s settings and choose your AI provider, Apple Intelligence on-device, a local model, or a cloud model like Claude, GPT or Gemini via your own key. From then on, Plouse writes your weekly read in plain language, complete with patterns worth noticing and a suggestion or two. Not feeling it? Switch providers, or turn insights off entirely, anytime. The tracking underneath never depends on the cloud.
